Honey Glazed Chicken Wings with Lemon Oil

I have a soft spot for honey glazed chicken wings. A platter of wings pulls me in every time. Friends gather, hands reach, and the bowl empties fast. These moments happen on game nights, cookouts, and quiet evenings at home.

Some wings miss the mark. In other words, they turn out dry, too sweet, or flat with little flavor.

This recipe fixes those problems.

Honey glazed chicken wings with lemon oil bring balance to the plate. Each bite has savory flavor, a touch of sweetness, and a clean lemon finish. The flavor builds from the first step.

The real star is Epis

Flavor starts with the base.

For this recipe, we use Epis, a green seasoning from Haitian cooking. Garlic, peppers, scallions, herbs, and oil blend into a thick paste. Many families keep their own version.

Epis soaks into the meat and seasons each bite. The flavor does not sit on the surface. You taste it all the way through.

If you want another way to use epis, try the roasted red snapper with epis seasoning and potatoes on The Blue Fufu. In that recipe, the same base builds deep flavor in both the fish and the vegetables.

On the other hand, chicken thighs with coconut milk on the blog also start with epis. In this case, the seasoning forms the base before the sauce comes together.

Then, after roasting, the wings get a honey and lemon finish. Because of this, the order matters. Savory comes first, then sweet and bright.

Ingredients for honey glazed chicken wings

This easy chicken wings recipe uses 2 pounds of wings. It feeds 3 to 4 people.

2 pounds chicken wings, split and tips removed
1 half cup epis seasoning
3 tablespoons lemon oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Salt and black pepper to taste

I keep my go-to kitchen tools in my Amazon storefront. You can find the wire rack and sheet pan I use here.

How to make honey glazed chicken wings with lemon oil

Step 1: Marinate the wings

Place the wings in a large bowl. Add the epis.

Use your hands to rub the seasoning into each piece. Press into the folds so the wings get coated well.

Cover the bowl and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Want deeper flavor. Let the wings sit overnight. The seasoning moves into the meat over time.

Step 2: Prep for baked chicken wings

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Set a wire rack over a baking sheet. Air moves around the wings and helps them cook evenly.

Lay the wings in one layer. Leave space between each piece.

Step 3: Roast the chicken wings

Place the tray in the oven. Roast for 45 minutes.

Look for a golden color. The skin should feel firm and the inside should stay tender.

These oven baked chicken wings stay soft on purpose. The glaze will coat them better this way.

Step 4: Make the honey lemon glaze

Grab a small bowl.

Add lemon oil, honey, and lemon juice. Season with salt and black pepper.

Whisk until smooth.

Taste the glaze. Need more brightness. Add a little more lemon. Want more sweetness. Add honey.

Step 5: Toss and finish

Remove the wings from the oven once golden.

Transfer them to a clean bowl while hot. Pour the glaze over the wings.

Toss until each piece is coated.

Serve right away.

What to serve with honey glazed chicken wings

These baked chicken wings pair well with fresh sides.

Try the lettuce wraps with chicken and cucumber from the blog for a lighter option. The crunch balances the glaze.

For a richer meal, serve cassava gnocchi with egusi and smoked fish. The flavors work well together on one table.

Add celery and carrots for crunch. A cold drink works well with the sweet lemon finish.

Savory flavor comes first. Sweetness follows. Lemon brings the dish together.

Description

These honey glazed chicken wings come out juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Epis seasoning builds a deep savory base, then a warm honey and lemon glaze adds a fresh finish. This baked chicken wings recipe works well for game day, family dinners, or small gatherings. Each bite brings sweet, savory, and bright flavor in balance.

Ingredients

Scale

2 pounds chicken wings, split and tips removed
1 half cup epis seasoning
3 tablespoons lemon oil
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Marinate the wings
Place the chicken wings in a large bowl. Add the epis seasoning. Use your hands to coat each piece well. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours. For deeper flavor, leave overnight.
  • Preheat the oven
Set the oven to 400°F. Place a wire rack over a baking sheet.
  • Arrange the wings
Lay the wings in a single layer on the rack. Leave space between each piece.
  • Bake the wings
Place the tray in the oven. Cook for 45 minutes. The wings should turn golden and stay tender inside.
  • Make the glaze
In a small bowl, mix lemon oil, honey, and lemon juice. Add salt and black pepper. Whisk until smooth.
  • Toss and serve
Transfer the hot wings to a clean bowl. Pour the glaze over the wings. Toss until coated. Serve warm.

Notes

  1. For best flavor, marinate overnight.
  2. Do not overcrowd the pan or the wings will not brown well.
  3. Taste the glaze and adjust lemon or honey before using.
