Here is a quick and easy jerk prawns skewers recipe that can be done in less than ten minutes. They can be paired with a soup, salad, pasta, rice to name a few. They are perfect for any occasion and so delicious! For this recipe, I used a mix from Grace Foods called Jerk seasoning.
This seasoning is the bomb! It is a little spicy but not overpowering. I love to add Jamaican flavor to my prawns.
It makes the prawns so succulent that you would be asking for more! This seasoning goes well with any type of meat or fish. A little will go a long way. I got mine from my local grocer in Toronto. If you live in the GTA area, this seasoning is one to look for. You surely will not be disappointed.
What is the difference between a prawn and a shrimp?
I used to get confused all the time regarding the subject. The common mistake is to think they are the same thing just in different size which is not true. The main reason for this belief is because shrimps sold commercially are harvested very young. The scientific difference between the two is that the shrimps have one pair of claw-like legs while the prawns have three pairs. Moreover, shrimps and prawns live in different types of water. Where did I buy my jumbo prawns from?
I got these jumbo prawns for my local wholesale store. The quantity for the price was a great deal. Not to mention that we aren’t “in-season” to get fresh ones. Seafood in general tends to be more expensive than other proteins. Hence, you will get more bang for your buck in your buy yours from a wholesaler. However, you might give up a little on the quality.
What cookware did I use?
For this recipe, you don’t need a grill. I used a grilling pan but a regular pan would do the job. A little bit of olive oil on it would do.

I absolutely love jerk spices. Never tried it with prawns or shrimp. This weekend, if it’s cool enough, I am definitely try this out on the grill.

We had these last night as a starter before our main meal and just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed them! We used Dunn’s River brand as in the UK couldn’t find the one you used. It was fabulous.

This sounds easy and delicious- exactly what I look for in a recipe! I didn’t know the difference between prawns and shrimp, so I learned something new today too! I bet shrimp could easily be substituted in for the prawns in this recipe – do you think so?
Magali Mutombo says
Absolutely, you can substitute them! I have learned about it not long ago also 🙂 Thanks!

These looks delish! I went to Jamaica a few years ago and fell in love with jerk seasoning. It’s been a long time since I made anything with it but good to know I can add it on shrimp/prawns. And congrats on your weight loss journey!
