One of my favorites is the recipe for tilapia with boiled plantains. It’s delicious and satisfying, perfect for family meals or friend gatherings. I love preparing it for any occasion.

Are you in the mood for a dish that brings comfort and satisfaction? Look no further than the delightful combination of fried fish and boiled plantains! This tantalizing pairing offers a fantastic blend of flavors and textures, perfect for any occasion. Growing up, this was one of my favorite dishes.

Do you have to use tilapia?

The short answer is no; you typically wouldn’t want to use certain types of fish for deep frying. While deep frying can be a delightful cooking method that enhances the flavor and texture of many kinds of fish, selecting the right varieties is essential for the best results. For instance, fish like tuna or salmon, which have a higher fat content and a more delicate texture, tend to be less suitable for deep frying. Instead, it’s best to opt for fish with white flesh, as they generally hold up better under high temperatures and result in a crispy exterior while remaining tender and flaky inside.

Fish like cod, haddock, or pollock work wonderfully for this cooking method. Their mild flavors and firm textures make them ideal for absorbing the seasoning in batters or coatings. Additionally, white fish tends to have a quick cooking time and can achieve the golden-brown crust often desired in fried dishes.

What type of plantains should you use?

For this recipe, yellow plantains with dark sport are essential to their sweetness and balance all the flavors.

Plantains are a staple in many tropical regions and beautifully complement fried fish. When boiled, plantains become tender and creamy, providing a perfect balance to the crispy fish. They’re tasty and packed with nutrients, making them a great addition to your meal!
