About Blue Fufu

How did Blue fufu came about?

The Blue Fufu concept was actually born out of a joke with my husband. I was ranting about how non innovative the food I grew up eating was. I remember wondering, “for how long have we been eating the way we are eating today”. I was telling him that we need to change that, and he retorted, “Well, change it.” “Who?! Me?” I asked. He answered with no hesitation: “Yes”. I paused for a second, since I had just realized that I had never thought that I was part of the solution. After a long minute, I asked: “Would you eat fufu if I made it blue?”, and he said: “Yes”. Well, at least I knew one person would try my crazy food! LOL

As I started to ponder the issue further and really entertain the idea, I was imagining this blue fufu. I realized that blue fufu to me represented more than just dyeing the food blue with food coloring; it represented being vulnerable with food and daring to try something new. I have always wondered if there was somebody out there other than me who felt like that but was too timid to try it.

I forged ahead and started the Cooking with Magali video blog. It was such an exciting adventure since I knew nothing about vlogging (still learning); but I was so excited to share with the world my joy of cooking and eating great food. It was so much fun, and I learned so much about food, photography, videos, etc… However, I thought that my audience was not ready for a crazy African dish that was, by all means, blue!

In the meantime, I got pregnant with baby #4! As thrilled as I was, I couldn’t cook, much less eat, for my entire pregnancy. ☹ So, I was thinking during this time about the blog and where it was going, and I realized that it wasn’t true to the original idea that I had had. I wanted to be risky with my food, creative, and try to approach it differently. I believe that food should evolve with time. I decided to make it my priority with the blog. Thus, I changed the name.
